Upright meaning
A blindfolded figure balances two swords across her shoulders. The Two of Swords is the held-breath card: a decision dodged, a truce maintained by not looking, two options canceled out by refusing both. The blindfold is the arrangement's price, calm bought with sight. Waite cautions that swords promise harmony only in a qualified manner, so ask what the peace is protecting and what its silence costs. The card does not demand a verdict today, but it suggests removing the blindfold early, information, feeling, one honest night's thought, so the choice is made by you rather than by the deadline.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the blindfold slips. What was balanced tips: news arrives that dissolves the stalemate, feelings crack the dam, or the postponement itself becomes the decision. This position favors the reckoning delayed, the conversation had, the tie cut or the tie tied. It can sting, truces that ended still counted as peace, but motion beats the freeze. Watch the temptation to re-blindfold, new distractions, new busyness, one more deferral dressed as prudence. Choose while the choosing is yours. The scales were never neutral anyway; something in you has been leaning for a while.

Divinatory Meanings: Conformity and the equipoise which it suggests, courage, friendship, concord in a state of arms; another reading gives tenderness, affection, intimacy. The suggestion of harmony and other favourable readings must be considered in a qualified manner, as Swords generally are not symbolical of beneficent forces in human affairs. Reversed: Imposture, falsehood, duplicity, disloyalty.
