Upright meaning
A figure slips away with five swords, leaving two behind. The Seven of Swords is strategy at the edge of ethics: the clever route, the quiet plan, doing for yourself what the committee would dilute. Not all of it is dark, working ahead of approval can be wise in hostile country. But the two swords left in the ground tell the truth about shortcuts: something gets abandoned, trust, thoroughness, the clean conscience. Ask whether your strategy would survive being explained aloud to those it affects. If yes, proceed quietly. If no, the plan is the problem, not the audience.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the sneak-thief meets daylight. Secrets surface, the shortcut circles back, or your own conscience files its complaint. This position favors restitution in small, early doses, returning what was taken in goods, credit, or truth. It can also mark the honest recognition of bad counsel, yours to others or others' to you, now visibly misfiring. If you are the one robbed rather than robbing, the reversal is caution rather than vengeance: tighten what was loose, say so plainly, watch patterns. Say the real plan to one trustworthy person. It will survive the sunlight, or it should.
