Upright meaning
A merchant weighs coins in scales, giving to the needy. The Six of Pentacles is flow between hands: generosity met with need, help offered at the right size, the balance of giving and receiving kept honest. This card favors sharing surplus, mentoring, donating time as well as money, and receiving graciously when the position reverses. The scales in the picture are the ethics: true giving weighs what is actually needed, not what flatters the giver. Ask whether the exchanges in your life are square, including the nonfinancial ones, attention, care, credit. Generosity circulated wisely returns in currencies you cannot requisition.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the scales stick. Help arrives with hooks, giving that curates gratitude, receiving that quietly becomes owing. This position asks about power in your exchanges: who holds the purse, who performs the need, what debt of loyalty is being quietly denominated. It can also mark the withheld gift, generosity postponed past usefulness, or the imbalance you have been rationalizing, always giving, always taking. Name the terms honestly, even to yourself, and adjust toward square. Charity with a leash is not charity; dependence dressed as partnership is not partnership. Fair scales feel strange at first, and then like peace.
