The Establish day officer (建) — Chinese almanac

Auspicious

The twelve day officers (建除十二神) of classical Chinese day selection — the fixed cycle behind each day's auspicious/avoid lists.

建 jiàn · Establish

Establish (jiàn) is the first of the twelve day officers: the day whose branch matches the current month branch, when the month's presiding force is "on duty". It marks the start of each twelve-day cycle, a day of strong, rising qi that favors going out to meet influential people, taking up a post, signing agreements, and launching new undertakings.

That same fullness carries taboos: traditionally Establish days avoid breaking ground or shipping out wealth — a brimming vessel should not be disturbed. In practical modern terms, use an Establish day for outward action — client meetings, proposals, deals — and pick another day for moving house or renovations.

Interpret through classical principles in two layers: 1) Structural Evidence: identify key line dynamics, changing line pivot, or element balance. 2) Actionable Verdict: direct answer to the inquiry in plain language, followed by 2–3 concrete next steps (action-verb first) and mindful cautions. Grounded wisdom for self-reflection. Source page:
