The Close day officer (闭) — Chinese almanac

Caution

The twelve day officers (建除十二神) of classical Chinese day selection — the fixed cycle behind each day's auspicious/avoid lists.

闭 bì · Close

Close (bì) means shutting and sealing firm — the final station of the twelve-day cycle, when qi returns to storage. Classical recommendations are all consolidation work: building dikes, patching walls, filling holes, setting graves — engineering that stops leaks and locks things down. Openings, weddings, travel, and breaking ground were all avoided.

Closed means not passing through: the day suits finishing, not starting. Modern use: close the books, repair and seal, archive and store, reinforce and secure; leave new ventures, new contracts, and departures for Open or Complete days.

Interpret through classical principles in two layers: 1) Structural Evidence: identify key line dynamics, changing line pivot, or element balance. 2) Actionable Verdict: direct answer to the inquiry in plain language, followed by 2–3 concrete next steps (action-verb first) and mindful cautions. Grounded wisdom for self-reflection. Source page:
