Yichuan YizhuanLine statement
The fifth, with the talent of yin and yielding, serves as the master of Abundance, and certainly cannot achieve its greatness and abundance on its own.
If it can bring forth the brilliant and beautiful talents below and employ them, there will be blessing and celebration, and it will again obtain fine renown—this is what is called good fortune.
Six in the Second Place possesses the talent of culture, brightness, centrality, correctness, and brilliant beauty.
If the one in the fifth place can truly draw such a one into office and entrust him with responsibility, he can bring about the blessings of abundance and greatness and the beauty of fame and praise; hence good fortune.
'Brilliant and beautiful talent' refers primarily to the second line; yet the initial, third, and fourth lines are all talents of yang and firmness—if the fifth is able to employ worthies, they will advance together in their kind.
Though the second is yin, it possesses the virtue of culture, brightness, centrality, and correctness, being a great worthy in the lower realm.
Although the fifth and the second are not in a regular yin-yang correspondence, at a time when brightness and action rely on each other, they possess the meaning of serving each other.
If the fifth can bring forth brilliant talent, there will be celebration and praise, and it will be auspicious. However, Six in the Fifth Place does not possess the reality of emptying itself to defer to worthies; the sage established this principle merely to provide instruction.
