Yichuan YizhuanLine statement
The second line is yin occupying the lower realm and holds resonance with the fifth line; hence the admonition of 'influence in the calves' is established.
The calf is the belly of the leg; when one walks, the foot moves first and only then is the calf raised—it does not move of its own accord.
If the second line does not abide by the proper Way and await the call of the superior, but instead moves impulsively like a calf moving on its own, it acts with restless rashness and loses itself; this is why it brings misfortune.
If it rests quietly in its dwelling without moving, awaiting the call of the superior, it attains the proper way of advance and retreat, and good fortune ensues.
The second line represents a person of central correctness; because it is in Influence (Wooing) and responds to the fifth line, this warning is given.
The text adds, 'remaining quiet brings good fortune,' meaning that if one rests content in one's proper station and does not move spontaneously, there will be good fortune.
