I Ching casting

Positioned at the base of the Kan water trigram, initial yin is inherently delicate, yet it yields to and receives support from the strong yang of line two directly above.

The yaoci compares this rescue to the assistance of a powerful horse, while the Xiaoxiang attributes good fortune to willing compliance as the hexagram transforms toward Zhongfu.

Addressing difficulties at their inception and seeking capable assistance eliminates lingering regrets before problems multiply. Leaning promptly on proven support neutralizes emerging troubles before they escalate.

Career

Early indicators of team misalignment, workflow friction, or emerging project risks call for swift, decisive intervention rather than passive waiting.

Enlisting the guidance of seasoned colleagues or tapping established organizational resources can quickly restore order and momentum. Addressing minor anomalies proactively prevents them from developing into systemic operational failures.

Acting early alongside competent partners prevents small operational hitches from turning into major setbacks.

Love & relationships

Subtle miscommunications or budding emotional coolness should be tended to immediately before emotional walls solidify. Traditional readings favor inviting the gentle counsel of trusted mutual friends or initiating a sincere, open dialogue to dissolve lingering doubts.

Responding with vulnerability and prompt attention preserves relational harmony and strengthens mutual trust. Gentle, timely honesty clears up minor doubts before they damage the bond.

Wealth

Emerging cash flow imbalances or initial budgetary oversights require immediate, methodical adjustment before financial pressure compounds.

Seeking guidance from trusted financial professionals or consolidating short-term obligations provides a reliable buffer against wider instability. Addressing fiscal vulnerabilities at the earliest stage preserves core resources and averts unnecessary loss.

Promptly addressing financial irregularities keeps your reserves firmly protected.

Classical commentary

Zhouyi BenyiLine statement

Residing at the beginning of the hexagram marks the onset of dispersion. Rescuing it at the very start requires little effort, and having a strong horse at hand, its good fortune is plain to see.

Six at the Beginning does not possess the talent to rescue from dispersion on its own, but can follow Nine in the Second Place; hence its image and divination are like this.

Yichuan YizhuanLine statement

Six resides at the beginning of the hexagram, the onset of dispersion. Rescuing it at the beginning of dispersion and gaining the strength of a robust horse is why there is good fortune.

Among the six lines, Six at the Beginning alone does not mention 'dispersion,' because when separation and dispersion are discerned early and rescued at their inception, dispersion is prevented. The instruction is profound!

A horse is what a person relies upon; relying on a strong horse, one can rescue from dispersion. The horse refers to Two. Two has the talent of firm centrality, while Six at the Beginning is yielding and compliant.

Neither has a proper correspondence; lacking correspondence, they draw close in mutual seeking. Beginning's yielding compliance relies upon Two's firm centrality to rescue from dispersion, like obtaining a strong horse to travel far—success is certain. Hence good fortune.

Rescuing dispersion at the start requires little effort, harmonizing with the timeliness.

The reason Beginning has good fortune is that it can follow the talent of firm centrality. Employing rescue at the start of dispersion accords with the time.

Zhouyi ZhuLine statement

Huàn means dispersion. Dwelling at the beginning of dispersion, divergence has not yet become severe; hence one can travel freely, fulfilling one's aspirations and evading difficulty.

Not waiting until danger becomes acute before fleeing, it is said: 'Using the strength of a robust horse to rescue: good fortune.'

Zhouyi ZhengyiLine statement

The Correct Meaning states: Six at the Beginning dwells at the onset of dispersion; divergence is not yet severe, so it can use a horse to rescue itself and attain strength and good fortune, hence 'Using the strength of a robust horse to rescue: good fortune.'

Yicuo JinLine statement

Six at the Beginning, initial line, topmost of the top: Clouds rest still, the sun stands in the sky's midpoint; radiance reaches everywhere. Along the path one meets a water source; a thousand miles fly swift as the wind.
