I Ching casting

Resting at the base of the water trigram while holding a natural correspondence with the fourth line, this line marks the very exit from danger.

The line statement simply notes no blame, while the Xiang commentary explains that standing at the junction of firmness and yielding is inherently blameless. Remaining unassuming and allowing your footing to stabilize supports safety without forced effort.

Career

Acute workplace tensions or urgent crises have subsided, returning day-to-day operations to manageable equilibrium. Rather than launching risky new initiatives immediately, your current priority should be steadying routine tasks and restoring operational harmony.

Keeping a low profile and executing fundamental duties well keeps you clear of avoidable trouble.

Love & relationships

Following a stretch of anxiety or distance, the emotional atmosphere enters a welcome period of calm and recuperation. There is no requirement for grand gestures; simple companionship and everyday peace provide the deepest reassurance right now.

Giving one another space to decompress allows affection to recover at its natural pace.

Wealth

Pressing financial liabilities or unexpected expenses have halted, permitting balances to stabilize into a manageable state. Traditional guidance cautions against speculative ventures during this recovery phase, favoring disciplined budgeting and cash preservation.

Guarding liquidity and letting finances rest quietly forms your safest strategy.

The strong (fourth) line and the weak line here are in correlation:—we judge rightly in saying that ‘its subject will commit no error.’

Classical commentary

Zhouyi BenyiLine statement

Hardship has already been resolved; dwelling below with softness and having a proper correlate above, what fault could there be? Hence its divination is like this.

Yichuan YizhuanSmall Image

The initial line and fourth line respond to each other, which is firmness and softness meeting and joining. When firmness and softness meet, they attain appropriateness.

Once hardship is resolved, handling it with appropriate firmness and softness means that in principle there is no fault.

Zhouyi ZhuLine statement

'Deliverance' means to untie and loosen. Tangled hardships are now untied. Dwelling at the beginning of obstruction and hardship newly resolved, at the juncture where firmness and softness first disperse, one is about to pardon crimes and perils so as to level the dangers.

Dwelling in this time without troubling one's position brings freedom from fault.

Zhouyi ZhuSmall Image

If there were blame or fault, it would not accord with principle. 'Righteousness' (yi) is like principle (li).

Zhouyi ZhengyiLine statement

Sub-commentary: When danger and hardship are not yet leveled, the lowly and weak suffer harm; thus, before obstruction and hardship are resolved, the soft and weak cannot be without fault. Once the knot of blockage is untied, the firm and strong no longer oppress.

Six at the Beginning 'dwells at the beginning of obstruction and hardship newly resolved, at the juncture where firmness and softness first disperse.'

Though occupying an unpositioned place with softness and weakness, encountering this time one need not worry about fault; hence 'Six at the Beginning: without fault.'

Zhouyi ZhengyiSmall Image

Sub-commentary: 'In principle there is no fault': 'yi' is like principle. Once firmness and softness have dispersed, in principle there must be no fault; if there were blame or fault, it would not be what principle warrants; hence 'in principle there is no fault.'

Commentary on 'if there were blame' down to 'yi is like principle': Sub-commentary: Regarding 'if there were blame or fault, it would not accord with principle,' some editions lack these eight characters.
