Zhouyi BenyiSmall Image
菑 (zī) is read with the fanqie of 側 and 其; 畬 is pronounced yú. Yielding, compliant, central, and correct, it accords with the time and follows principle without selfish intentions or expectant desires.
Hence it has the image of 'not plowing yet harvesting, not clearing new fields yet reaping three-year land,' meaning it makes no contrived effort beforehand and harbors no anxious hope afterward. If a diviner is like this, it furthers one to undertake something.
Yichuan YizhuanLine statement
The ninth line is firm yang and master within, which is the image of Innocence. Changing yielding into firm solidness and dwelling within, it is inwardly sincere and free of falsehood. Going forth with innocence, what could not be auspicious?
The hexagram statement says 'it does not further one to undertake anything,' meaning that once one is already without falsehood, one cannot intentionally push forward any further, for excess leads to falsehood.
The line statement says 'to go forth brings good fortune,' meaning that acting in accordance with the Way of Innocence brings good fortune.

Going forth with innocence, there is nothing in which one does not attain one's aim.
For when sincerity meets things, there is nothing it cannot move: using it to cultivate the self, the self becomes correct; using it to manage affairs, affairs attain their proper order; using it to oversee others, people are moved and transformed.
Wherever one goes, one never fails to attain one's aim.

Possessing a firm nature while dwelling below, it uses nobility to humble itself before the lowly. Its conduct does not transgress into falsehood, hence going forth it attains its aim.

Zhengyi says: Possessing a firm nature and dwelling below, it uses nobility to humble itself before the lowly. In the teachings and transformations it carries out, it does not act with falsehood; therefore 'going forth brings good fortune' and it attains its aim.
Yicuo JinLine statement
